Opening Weekend 29th & 30th June

FINAL Opening Weekend

Official Opening of New Welcome Area and Refurbished Hub.

Come and see our new halls at our Community Open Day on Saturday 29th June, and join us for a Service of Praise and the official opening on Sunday 30th June.

The Congregation of Groomsport Presbyterian Church is delighted to announce the official opening of their new welcome area and refurbished coffee bar, “The Hub”, a project that began in 2021 and has just been completed.

The official opening ceremony will take place on Sunday 30th June and will be conducted by Mrs. Catherine Champion DL, Vice Lord-Lieutenant of County Down. This event will take place immediately after a service of worship and praise, giving thanks to God for his great goodness and seeking his blessing.

To kick off the weekend, the halls complex will be open on Saturday 29th June from 10.30am to 4pm to enable church members and the wider community to come in and view the new premises and enjoy some free refreshments, accompanied by live music in the afternoon (2.30pm – 4pm) provided by Newtownards Silver Band.

The minister of Groomsport Presbyterian Church, Rev Paul Dalzell, outlined the exciting developments on view: He said: “The new entrance foyer is a large, glass fronted, welcoming space with tables and seating, that will allow people to meet and mingle. The centrepiece of the refurbishment is The Hub, featuring stunning floor-to-ceiling glass walls that offer a splendid view of the scenic harbour, the sea, and the Copeland Islands beyond.”

He continued, “The whole Hub area is a remarkable design which blends the natural beauty of Groomsport’s environment, while at the same time offering a spacious area that will be a real step up for many of the church and community’s diverse activities. The Hub is intended to be a central venue for various coffee mornings and events for all ages such as Kidszone, the Boys’ Brigade, Girl Guides, through to adult organisations such as the Bible Study group, Presbyterian Women, the Leisure Group, Bowling Club, and Badminton Club. This new facility will greatly benefit the congregational organisations and activities, along with community gatherings.”

Commenting on the original facilities, Rev Dalzell said: “The original coffee bar was opened in 1978 and served the congregation well for nearly 50 years. We are so thankful to have this facility enlarged and updated to 21st-century standards. With the new design set in such a beautiful location, we trust that it will serve the congregation and the community very well for many years to come.”

Rev Dalzell also underlined that he hoped and prayed that, through imaginative use of the facilities, the Hub will further fulfil the church’s mission to be a welcoming community of God’s people, hearing and sharing God’s Word, and reflecting his unconditional love, concluding:“ We want this facility to be a place where all are welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus. I really hope that as many as possible will join us for a weekend of celebration and gratitude as we unveil these wonderful new facilities.
